 16 March 2008Just a quickieI've been wanting to update my blog for days and days but project managing a house build takes a lot of time.... meaning less time for updating my blog! Good news! Harry the digger came in a did the excavation - so now we have a big flat hole in our ground. We have to go down before we go up, so I'm excited. We're getting our timber from MacDirect who did the best quote in terms of price and the speed with which they came back to us. They can also do flooring in macrocarpa and big slabs for our window sills, so I'm stoked with them. Windows themselves are coming from Dandos who do a fabulous job. We used them for our renovations and several people up here have used them too. It was a very sharp intake of breath when we got the quote sorted out though.... $42k for windows and bi-fold doors..... OK they're solid cedar which means they'll look great and last for ages. And I keep reminding myself how often you interact with windows and doors. So it's really important to get them looking right. But still, it seems like a lot of money for windows! Still no reply from Council on the consent..... I keep rushing to the letterbox every morning holding my breath just in case there's a letter saying either "We have a problem" or "Yay, go for it". But nothing yet.... Anyway, I should also mention Win at BBS Flooring in Whangarei who was very helpful in giving me guidance on what sort of flooring to use. Thanks Win! Will add photos soon - just got to buy some more batteries for my camera.
